RCCS celebrates 100 years of Black History at Library Community Event

Richland County Children Services (RCCS) celebrated 100 years of Black History at the Mansfield Richland County Public Library annual community celebration on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026. The free, family friendly event buzzed with energy as attendees came together to celebrate Black history, culture, and achievement. The library was alive with conversation, music, food, giveaways and learning as families, students, and community leaders explored exhibits, enjoyed performances, and connected with one another. The 2026 celebration marks the 100th anniversary of Black history observances, first established in 1926 as Negro History Week by historian Carter G. Woodson and expanded to Black History Month in 1976 after recognition by President Gerald Ford. Local organizations participating include the Alzheimer's Association, NAACP Mansfield Ohio Branch, North End Community Improvement Collaborative (NECIC), First Call 211, The Ohio State University at Mansfield Black Student Association and Third Street Family Health Services.
