October is Safe Sleep Month

October 1, 2021

October is Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Awareness Month!

This month and beyond, advocates and infant caregivers can join Safe to Sleep® and its partners to encourage safe infant sleep and help raise awareness about SIDS.

Every year, approximately 3,600 infants die from sleep-related infant deaths including Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Richland County Children Services (RCCS) will be sharing information about Safe to Sleep on our social media platforms and at our Agency helping to raise awareness about SIDS.

RCCS will be providing a free 12-page brochure Safe Sleep for Your Baby: Reduce the Risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and Other Sleep-Related Causes of Infant Death and a flyer What Does a SAFE Sleep Environment Look Like? in our Agency lobby and at community events.
