Once again a great turn out of participants for Richland County Children Services Annual Swim/Bike/Run. This year 162 participants covered more than 470 miles during the event. More than 40 agency employees and their family members, members of the Mansfield YMCA, members from the partner agencies Catalyst Life Services and Richland Newhope, participated in the event which began Friday at 4 p.m. and concluded Saturday at 4 p.m.

Swim/Bike/Run was created to highlight the agency's mission assuring the safety, well-being and permanency of children at risk of abuse and neglect. It's staged in April during National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

"Child safety is our goal and our staff of experienced case workers take calls about suspected abuse and neglect 24-hours a day, 7 days a week," said Brigitte Coles, Community Engagement Specialist.

In 2017, the agency received 6,484 calls, averaging 18 calls per day.

"It's a community awareness event and Richland County offers a variety of programs for families and children. We're appreciative that we have the ability to plug those families into the services that are available to them." said Tim Harless, Director of Community Outreach and Programming.

During the event there was a least one-person swimming, biking, running or walking during the entire period.

"Richland County Children Services is thankful for the Mansfield YMCA's continued support of the annual event," said Coles.
