April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month

March 30, 2018

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. This month and throughout the year, Richland County Children Services (RCCS) encourages all individuals and organizations to play a role in making Richland County a better place for children and families. By ensuring that parents have the knowledge, skills and resources they need to care for their children, we can help prevent child abuse and neglect by making meaningful connections with children, youth and families in our communities.

In 2017, RCCS assessed 1,670 allegations of abuse and neglect. Agency caseworkers were involved with 389 open and ongoing cases involving 773 local children.

According to the Children's Trust Fund every 30 minutes a child is abused or neglected in Ohio. In 2017, more than 18,000 reports of child abuse and/or neglect were recorded in Ohio.

RCCS Director of Community Outreach and Programming, Tim Harless, appeared on WMFD-TV's Focus on North Central Ohio to talk about the events planned in observance of Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Richland County Children Services encourages everyone to consider what you can do to prevent child abuse and neglect.

Please call the Richland County Children Services 24-hour child abuse hotline at 419-774-4100 to report child abuse and neglect.
