Ontario - Richland County Children Services joined many area public service agencies and or/organizations Thursday for the annual soul food dinner Black History Month celebration at Ohio State University at Mansfield.

This marks the 17th year for the event which was held in the Marketplace in Eisenhower Center. The theme this year was "Behind Every Great Man...Woman!"

The agency had a table and provided information about kinship care, foster care and adoption.

The event focused on the critical role that women have played in the battle for racial equality.

The presentation featured the talents of Renaissance Theatre performer Condrea Webber, musical director and keyboardist for Alter Ego Alice Bond, and OSU students gospel singer James Davis and guitarist Mike Sims.

Webber highlighted the journey of great America women who have made contributions to the civil rights movement such as Coretta Scott King, Mamie Till-Mobley, Myrlie Evers-Williams and Sybrina Fulton. 

Those in attendance enjoyed delicious food including, fried chicken, greens, cornbread, macaroni and cheese and a dessert table. Members of the Mansfield Senior Boys Basketball team volunteered to serve meals at the dinner.
