Commissioners Proclaim April Child Abuse Prevention Month

RCCS Executive Director Nikki Harless receives proclamation from Commissioner Cliff Mears

Mansfield, OH - Richland County Children Services (RCCS) kicked off Child Abuse Prevention Month Thursday, March 30, with a proclamation from the Richland County Commissioners.

The proclamation read during a meeting by Commissioner Cliff Mears, was also signed by Commissioners Darrell Banks and Tony Vero designating April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in the county. Commissioner Mears presented the proclamation to Richland County Children Services Executive Director Nikki Harless.

Harless provided an update to the commissioners about the agency’s work in 2022. Harless said the agency provided services to 1,599 alleged victims.

She said the agency screened in and investigated 1,055 allegations of neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional maltreatment, dependency and FINS (Family in Need of Assistance). She said the agency has 134 youths currently in the care of RCCS.

The commissioners also received Blue Ribbon cookies and Blue Ribbons from RCCS at the meeting.
