Busy summer over, more fun planned this fall

September 19, 2011

Richland County Children Services just concluded a full summer of community involvement. But a busy fall season lies ahead.

The agency participated in the Mansfield Juneteenth celebration in June, Shelby Bicycle Days in July, Richland County Fair and Lexington Blueberry Festival in August, and the Bellville Street Fair in September.

Still to come this fall is the Mansfield Halloween Parade and the Mansfield Holiday Parade, along with the agency's own "Run For Our Kids" 5K run/walk, annual pasta dinner, and Foster Family Christmas Party.

"We have said it before, but it's worth repeating. These kinds of events are important in the communities we serve and we want to support the men and women and children in the communities that have been so good to us," said Carl Hunnell, the agency's communications supervisor.

RCCS had a booth at the Richland County Fair from Aug. 7 through Aug.13, handing out free popcorn, children's toys, recruiting potential foster parents and also answering questions about the agency's efforts. The agency popped and handed out 300 pounds of popcorn and 3,000 yo-yos, frisbees, water bottles and megaphones.

Children Services again sponsored "Family Day" at the fair on Aug. 12.fairbaby

RCCS participated in the annual Lexington Blueberry Festival from Aug. 18 through Aug. 21. As one of the primary sponsors of the event, the agency had a pavilion at the event. It distributed the same goodies as at the Richland County Fair, but the shaded pavilion with picnic tables provided parents and children respite from the sun and heat.

The agency returned for the Bellville Street Fair Sept. 14 through Sept. 17. The agency popped and handed out 250-plus pounds of popcorn during this wildly popular event.
