Annual 24-hour Swim, Bike, Run set for this weekend
March 28, 2011
MANSFIELD -- Richland County Children Services will stage its eighth annual 24-hour Swim-Bike-Run on Friday, starting at 5 p.m. at the Mansfield Area Y.
The event kicks off National Child Abuse Prevention Month in April.
"We do this 24-hour event as a way to educate the public that our agency is open for their calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 52 weeks a year," said communications supervisor Carl Hunnell.
"Residents do not need to wait until the morning if they suspect a child is in danger or has been abused or neglected," Hunnell said. "If it's on the weekend, they don't have to wait until Monday."
The agency's 24-hour hotline can be reached at 419-774-4100.
Area residents are invited to come and participate in the event by signing up to walk, swim, bike or run for an hour during the period.
"Our promise is we will have at least one person doing something for the entire 24 hours," Hunnell said.
If you would like to become involved, please contact Children Services volunteer coordinator Brianne Kindinger at 774-4130.
