Web site gives agency another tool in information kit

It's clear people today use a variety of methods in gathering information. Gone are the days when perhaps an evening print newspaper edition or a morning radio broadcast were the only ways area residents gained the information they need.
That's why Richland County Children Services uses its Internet home to offer news and valuable information parents and families need to keep children safe from harm. In addition to using print and broadcast news and advertisements, the agency Web site offers an economical way for the agency to put information out to the public.
We are pleased to announce county residents are coming to the agency Web site more and more every day. In fact, in terms of year-over-year growth, we have seen remarkably increased usage of our site in every major measurable term.
From Jan. 1 through April 8, our agency web site has had 2,806 visits, up 32 percent over the same period in 2009. Those visits have totaled 10,914 pageviews, up 55 percent over last year. Visitors are looking at 3.89 pages per visit, up 18 percent. The average "time on site" per visit this year thus far is up 1 percent and the number of new visits we see daily is up almost 3 percent.
That marked improvement is only accelerating since the agency launch its new and improved Web site on April 2. In one week, visitors have logged more than 3,000 page views on our new site. At that rate, we would have more page views in April than we saw in the first four months of the year combined. It's clear residents like the new site and are using it more and more.
The home page is the most visited page and serves as a gateway to the remainder of the site. Our page on careers/job opportunities within our agency is No. 2 and our page with information on how to report suspect abuse or neglect is No. 3.
We urge you to take a look around the new Web site. You will find useful information on how to report abuse/neglect, learn about the ongoing services to children and families our agency provides, gain information about foster parents/adoption, check a calendar of events, view photo galleries and more.
We appreciate the fact Richland County residents love children and are willing to work with Children Services to keep them safe from harm. We hope our agency Web site makes that assistance even easier.
