“Pinwheels for Prevention” event kicks off Child Abuse Prevention Month

April 3, 2020

Richland County Children Services kicked off April’s National Child Abuse Prevention Month with Pinwheels for Prevention at the Richland County Courthouse on Wednesday, April 1. RCCS staff placed 1,260 Blue Pinwheels on the front lawn of the Richland County Courthouse at 50 Park Ave. East.

The 1,260 Blue Pinwheels represent every report of abuse or neglect received by the Agency in 2019.

The Blue Pinwheels are a reminder that every child deserves a safe, happy and permanent home. The blue pinwheel has become a national symbol for child abuse  prevention.

RCCS will receive proclamations from the Richland County Commissioners and mayors from surrounding cities in Richland County recognizing National Abuse Prevention Month.

RCCS will also participate in the annual statewide “Wear Blue Day” on Wednesday, April 8. Wear Blue Day is an annual statewide event to spread awareness on the important issues of child abuse, neglect and dependency. On this day local businesses, offices, schools, agencies, factories, retail outlets and media partners are asked to “Wear Blue” to show unity against child abuse and      neglect. The agency will accept emailed photos from participants to post on the RCCS website and Facebook pages.

According to the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund, every 30 minutes a child is abused or neglected in Ohio.
