The Minority Health Fair is an annual community event held during April, which is designated state-wide as Minority Health Month. The focus of the fair is to:

  • Promote healthy lifestyles;
  • Highlight resources available to eligible individuals;
  • Provide valuable information emphasizing the practice of disease prevention; and
  • Increase awareness among minorities regarding health issues affecting the minority population.

Last year, over 500 families attended the event. Agencies this year offered free health screenings, educational displays, health and safety information, community resources as well as interactive activities for children and adults. The free health screenings included: blood pressure checks, cholesterol screenings, hearing and vision testing, HIV testing, and mammogram screenings.

Tickets were given to participating families to receive free fresh produce from Matthew 25 Outreach.

Door prizes were awarded throughout the day for all fair participants. Attendees also participated in a Red Cross blood drive and a free nutritious breakfast and lunch was served.
