Mansfield, Oh - The Freshman Academy Teachers at Mansfield Senior High School hosted a Community Resource Day Wednesday in the Community Room.

The goal of the event was to bring educators in direct communication with local organizations that provide resources to students, families and community members.

Representatives from Catalyst Life Services, Mansfield Correctional Institution, First Call 211 of Richland County, Catholic Charities Diocese of Toledo, North End Community Improvement Collaborative (NECIC), Mansfield UMADAOP, Mosaic Church, Richland County Juvenile Court, Richland County Children Services and Richland County Mental Health and Recovery Services participated in a panel discussion. Each representative gave a three-minute introduction about their agency and the services they provide.

The teachers and administrators had the opportunity to learn about youth and adult services, food programs, housing programs, kinship and foster care services, recreational programs, job assistance, support and advocacy groups and other valuable information.

Richland County Children Services Director of Community Outreach and Programming Tim Harless talked about the agency's services and its mission to assure the safety, well-being and permanency of children at risk of abuse and neglect.

Mansfield Senior High Freshman Academy Community Liaison Joetta McCruter- Polk hopes the event will foster new partnerships with the school district.

"We're very pleased to have the support from our local agencies and organizations. The representatives offered a wealth of information about the variety of resources and services available to our students and families with exceptional needs," MCruter-Polk said.

"The Community Resource Day was made possible through a school improvement grant," Mansfield City Schools Director of Student Support Programs Holly Christie said.

"We wanted to build a bridge between the agencies and the school creating a partnership to provide services to students and parents," Christie said.

McCruter -Polk said plans are underway to host a second Community Resource Day for students and parents.
